Weeds are every gardener’s nightmare, whether they’re in the flower gardens, vegetable gardens, or just in your pristine lawn. Getting rid of them organically seems impossible since most of the advice out there either doesn’t kill the weeds at all, or it does too good of a job and kills your plants at the same time. Thankfully, there are some solutions that will help you eliminate the weeds in your gardens and lawn without doing either of those things.

#1 Pull Them

It seems like a no-brainer, but the best thing you can do for weeds in your vegetable or flower gardens is to pull them. To make the process easier, you can water around the weed to soak the dirt, and then use a flat-head screwdriver or a gardening spade to dig the weeds out. This is the most non-invasive, safe way to get rid of weeds that are growing very close to your other plants. Sure, you might catch a few roots here or there from the plants you want to keep, but it’s much better than spraying them with vinegar and killing them completely.

#2 Boil Them

Even those tough dandelions and other nightmarish weeds are not going to survive a dousing of boiling hot water. Just boil a pot of water on the stove, take it out to the garden or your lawn, and gently pour the water over the offending weed. Just be careful not to burn yourself or any nearby plants you want to keep in the process!

#3 Suffocate Them

Sounds a little ridiculous because you don’t want your neighbors seeing you out there choking a weed plant; although, we’ve all probably thought about doing it at some point. Nonetheless, this isn’t actually choking the weeds.

Grab some newspaper – don’t worry, it’s biodegradable and harmless – and put it over the area where you want to kill the weeds. For example, in between your vegetable garden rows is a good idea. You can follow up with some mulch on top of the newspaper to make it look nicer.
